Delaware Brews Part 1 #22-23

This post is running several days late as I was distracted upon returning from the weekend visiting the Maryland and Delaware shores.

On Sunday as part of a trek back home, we made a couple stops in Delaware, which was my first time in Delaware for nearly 3 years.

First stop was at Thompson Island Brewing which was fun and seemed quite new!

There, I had the two beers which sounded the most interesting to me at the time.
#22 - SoDel Pie Ale
#23 - Fresh: Passionfruit, Mango, Tangerine

Both were distinctive and excellent in the diverse flavors they had!

Ocean City Weekend Beers #14-21

To kick off the year, we took a quick trip to Ocean City, MD which is about a 3 hour drive from home.  The weather didn't really cooperate with us as it was rainy and foggy all night Friday and all day through the evening on Saturday, while Sunday was very windy, though much clearer and dry.

So what do you do when it is rainy and you can't really enjoy anything outside (even when most places and things are closed since we are in the off-season)….well, you go have some brews and food!

We went to Bad Monkey in their Ocean City West location which is open year-round! Here I had beers #14-16!
#14 - RAR Country Ride Pale Ale
#15 - Union Craft Foxy Red IPA
#16 - Key Brewing Speed Wobbles Session IPA

Since the weather was a bummer we stayed in a bit and I was able to get a few more to try over the weekend from a liquor store near our hotel!
#17 - Evolution Blurred Vines IPA
#18 - Burley Oak Lost IPA

#19 - Fordham & Dominion Splash & Go
#20 - Fordham & Dominion Back Stage IPA
#21 - Evolution Day Crush Session Sour Ale

Pickles and Brews in Ocean City #9-13

We went on a quick weekend trip (and first trip of the year) to Ocean City Maryland this weekend.

Once we arrived, we had a bit of trouble finding a place to eat since so many places were closed for the season, then we found a place open year round called Pickles Pub!

Had a few new brews while there....but that's not all!  I had a flight of pickles made locally in Berlin MD.

Here are the new beers from that night:
#9 - Key Brewing Bail Money IPA
#10 - Equilibrium Time IPA
#11 - Manor Hill Citra Splendor Double IPA
#12 - RAR Nanticoke Nectar IPA
#13 - Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA

Lonely #8

On Thursday January 2nd at home, I had one new beer - #8 for the year - Atlas Beer Works Ponzi IPA

New Year Day - The Official Start - Beers 5-7

After NYE out in Alexandria, we stayed home all day on 1/1 and just relaxed, which gave me a chance to have a couple more beers on this trek!

#6 - Three Notch'd 40 Mile IPA
#7 - Evolution Craft Lot No. 3 IPA

993 to go!!!

Kicking It Off - 12/31/19 - Beers 1-4

To kick off the 1000 beer year, we went out on NYE and tried a new place in Old Town Alexandria, Augie's which has 24 rotating beers on tap.

There I tried two beers:
Later in the evening we visited one of our favorite places, the Lost Dog CafĂ© in Alexandria, VA.

There I tried two more beers:

Not a bad start to the 1000 Beer Year!

The 1000 Beer Year

What? Why? Who? When? How?

OK, lets break it down starting with...

What? I am seeking a bit of a personal challenge and to have some directedness in my pursuit of awesome and sometimes not awesome beers to consume.  I know I have had several calendar years in which I have drank 500+ different beers and likely been close to 1000 in a year or two, though can't confirm unless I track it like I will this year - 2020!

Who? I am a beer lover who has spent nearly 2 decades trying all types of beers I can find from all types of places that I visit and live.  I have tried over 3000 beers which I tracked in a giant spreadsheet from 2002-2017.

When? This is easy - I started on New Year Eve 2019 as the kick-off for this one year event.  I now have until midnight on December 31, 2019 to consumer 1000 (or more) different beers.

Why? I wanna do it!

How? I think a criteria for trying 1000+ beers is that I can't count small beer samples at beer festivals - though at a brewery with a tasting/sampler set of beers with each pour at or above 4 oz will count.  I believe the vast majority of the 1000+ beers will be a full serving though.

Now...Beer Me!
